Yesterday my dad and I went to look at an accordion we found at Craigslist. This is seriously so fun, I thought it would be a long time till we found one. This one is the chromatic button kind that I’ve been mentioning. Hopefully I’ll have pictures or a video of it soon.

Language Update: This morning I finished the 4th or 5th time through lessons 3-5 of the Living Language 12 Hour Cassette German Course.
I am just now understanding all of the words and phrases (most of them). Some of the phrases are so long I forget how they go by the time they get to the end where you’re supposed to repeat. And I wonder how many Germans would laugh at my imitation of a phrase I can’t even remember. Once or twice I’ve just tried to follow the intonation because I couldn’t remember more than one or two words.
So I decided I’m moving on to the next set of lessons. Hopefully if I really cram this stuff in over and over again, then take a break from it and come back, it’ll pop into my head automatically when I go over the lessons once more.

Oh, congrats on the accordian! Fun!
I’ve been wanting to learn German forever! My sister showed me this really neat program but, I just haven’t had the time. How long have you been using that program?

Thanks Dianna
Esther, now is the time!! Seriously, there’s no time like the present to at least bit off the tiniest corner of the huge task of learning a language. I think anything will add to later on, even if it’s just learning the alphabet, or some vocabulary. A lot of Spanish vocab I learned before I knew any grammar or how to put it together and it comes in handy now, even though I don’t have a fantastic vocabulary.
Which program do you have? I like things that combine audio and word. Audio helps with the pronunciation but I tend to remember things better when I see them written down (and spelled! It drives me nuts not to know how it’s spelled). I know everyone is different though.
I will suggest once again a site called livemocha.com, which offers free courses now in Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Icelandic, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Some of the courses, such as Icelandic are just beginner courses, but the Spanish and German courses (at least) have 4 parts, two 50 hour courses and two 30 hour courses, for a total of 160 hours of learning. Not bad for a free site
There are a few mistakes here and there, but often times there are notes on the side from native users pointing out the errors.
So I’ll just say I totally encourage you to take it up
Whatever way works!
