Happy 2009, folks :)

I was looking for something on my old blog and I came across this entry for the end of 2007. So I decided to do it again for this year.

2008 Summary Survey

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? Flew, rode a subway, train, got a passport, drank coffee by myself and my sister at Dunkin Donuts (and other places, with friends!), loved in a different way - God and people

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t know if I made any last year. Usually I just start projects early so I’ll be well into them by the time January comes. This year I want to finish the whole hundredpushups.com challenge. Without busting my shoulders ;) I want to stay away from the scissors (on my hair) for the entire year. Which means I just have a few hours to do a last minute panic-chop!!

I also would like to say at this time next year - “I did something  this year.” (besides anything like pushups.)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No

4. Did anyone close to you die? Two relatives died this year that I can think of off hand

5. What countries did you visit? Germany! And also Amsterdam.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? the courage to forsake and love to follow

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? November 18-5  - those are  the days I was out with my sister on an incredible journey.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Good question! Maybe doing 52 pushups? They are the things that I spent the most concentrated mental energy on, I think.

9. What was your biggest failure? Not doing 53 pushups :P

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? An unusually little amount, this year.  No flu!

11. What was the best thing you bought? motorcycle and a plane ticket

12. What’s one of the best pictures you have from this year? The ones in my head that I’ll never forget. They are all over and two many to count.

13. What is the saddest movie you saw? Blossoms in the Dust made me cry the most that I can recall, but that was recently. Perhaps I’ve forgotten about another earlier in the year

14. Where did most of your money go? A big chunk went to a plane ticket, and also to a motorcycle

15. What did you get really, really excited about? Going to Germany

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2008? I don’t think there’s a song that sticks in my mind from this year

17. Compared to this time last year, you are: I’m going on a limb to say all of these things about myself, but I would say quieter, more lost in thought, more frustrated, and also more happy and more hopeful, and  I have a different perspective of the world. I dress a lot differently than I have in past years, I’m a little fatter, I’m weaker, I have four less teeth, more scars on my face, I have less makeup on, I’m more happy about the way I look, I’m less inclined to do daring things, I am more inclined to tell honestly what’s on my mind

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Singing and writing

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Complain and whine about not getting things done (it just makes me get nothing done to complain.)

20. How did you spend Christmas? I didn’t spend it this year, I’m savin’ up. Just kidding :P
Singing at the nursing home and with a family who came over for dinner

21. Did you fall in love in 2008? Does loving God so much that it makes your heart feel full count? I don’t know what sense of in love this question means, so I can’t answer.

22. New Favorite Restaurant?
I Hmm. Cafes that have coffee (er, don’t they all??)? I don’t know it that qualifies, but those seem to be the highlighted eateries of the year.

23. What was your favorite TV program? I don’t watch TV programs mostly. Hogans Heros are fun, and the kids here watch Robin Hood all the time, so I see plenty of those.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I don’t think so. I don’t hate anyone, to my knowledge.

25. What was the best book you read? Matthew. Also, I really really liked Güdrun.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery? I didn’t make many this year, I don’t think! :P  Metronome guitar stuff - playing at super slow speeds with a metronome in order to gain pick efficiency. Bossa Nova. Singing that is me - though I still don’t like it most of the time.

27. What did you want and get? A friend.

28. What was your favorite activity of this year? Breathing? Man, I don’t know! This is a silly question, I’m afraid. I did so many enjoyable things :) Sleeping when I’m really tired is one of them, and waking up feeling happy is another.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21 and I was in Kentucky with friends. We played volleyball, ate cake, and hung out. Some of us engaged in debate over Bible versions and other things   :)

30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Comfortable but don’t wear it if you think it looks ugly or silly. If you think it’s silly, you’ll look silly. But that said, certain things can certainly BE silly without looking silly or feeling silly. Look nice, and even if you don’t actually look nice at least wear something you really think you look nice in and feel nice in instead of thinking that something you really can’t stand is going to look nice.

31. What kept you sane? God? There are a great many miracles that occur and I think to be even mildly happy or sane in this unhappy and insane sinful world is one of them. God is gracious.

32. Which celebrity/public figure did you admire the most? I can’t think of one, off the top of my head.

33. What political issue stirred you the most? I voted, that was interesting. I did a write-in, so I guess I was stirred enough to do that.

34. Who did you miss? A bunch of people. I missed my grandmother, and my greatgrandmother. I missed my cousins in China, and I missed friends that I have never met in person. I missed my young family, the babies who used to kiss me and I used to hold.

35. Who was the best new person you met? This person knows, and readeth my blog.

36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008: Be yourself and think yourself. No one will think for you, and no one will wake you up if you insist on sleeping. Also, flying is not difficult. Provided you use a plane, and not your own wings, that is ;)

37. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: I don’t know of a lyric that can sum up a whole year, but perhaps a word will do better: mercy.
