Who Am I?
I’m a wannabe generalist! I got interested in generalism after reading a book called The Teenage Liberation Handbook; How to Quit School and Get a Real Education, by Grace Llewellwyn. While I don’t agree with everything the book supports, I do support quitting public school in search of a real education.
I’m a musician that sings/plays full time with my family, The MacDonald Family Singers. We’ve spent an average of 5 months each year touring the US in the recent past. Seeing the country has been quite an education in itself. It was thrilling to see palm trees in real life for the first time when we went to Florida some years back, and hiking part of the Grand Canyon left an impression on me that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Above the fun of seeing all the scenery, of course, we are blessed to be able to meet many people from all over. They all have one thing in common though, myself and my family included. Take a good look at the stats. 10 out of 10 die. For further in depth pondering, here’s a question; Are you a good person?
Besides music, I enjoy art, doing some pencil drawings and occasional airbrushing. I cook one day a week (and desserts during the rest of the week, if I can help it! Trying out new recipes is something, I think, that classifies as a pro-generalist activity. I also like physical activities such as running and weight lifting. I’m still trying to walk on my hands, but I can’t even do a handstand yet! I am poor as far as math goes, but when my brothers explain math to me in a way that makes sense, I try to listen and learn something. Math, I think, would open up a whole realm of things to learn but I haven’t had the discipline to buckle down and do it. I’m no expert in any one field listed above, but if I was I wouldn’t be a generalist, I’d be a specialist
Goodness of The Soul
Life is not about the here and now, it’s about the then and later. What you do (or don’t do) today will effect you later on. Since time is one element there’s scarce little of for the average person (and even the not so average), the most important decisions you make will be those that have an impact later on. If you’re a good person, you’ve got nothing to lose, but please check here and make sure you’re really a good person. This is not a light issue because anyone who reads this blog is going to die. In fact, everyone who breathes is going to die. So take a minute of your time and consider the issues. Are you good enough, say, to go to heaven? Find out by clicking here and taking a simple test.
